Overview

The Ideas/Initiatives Pipeline By Department report provides a comprehensive view of the progress of ideas/initiatives through various pipeline stages, comparing current month-to-date performance against end-of-month targets and highlighting variances. This report helps users track and monitor the flow of ideas/initiatives across different stages of the pipeline, forecast the pipeline situation for the upcoming month, and identify areas requiring attention. The report displays both a visual chart representation and detailed grid sessions showing individual ideas/initiatives within each stage.

 The report is particularly useful for tracking idea/initiative progression, identifying bottlenecks in the pipeline, monitoring departmental performance, and ensuring ideas/initiatives are moving through stages according to targets.


Note: Users need the View Ideas Pipeline By Department Report permission enabled in their role under Reports to be able to access and use this report. If you cannot view this report, please contact your system administrator to verify your permissions.



Accessing the Ideas/Initiatives Pipeline By Department Report

To access the Ideas/Initiatives Pipeline By Department report:

  1. Navigate to the Reports module from the top navigation bar
  2. Select Pipeline By Department from the list of available reports within the Ideas group


  3. The report will display with default filters applied, showing both the chart visualization and detailed grid data

Understanding the Report

The Ideas/Initiatives Pipeline By Department report consists of two main components: a visual chart representation and a detailed data grid showing individual ideas/initiatives.

Chart Visualization

The chart displays pipeline stages as vertical bars, with each stage showing:

  • Stage Name and Count: The pipeline stage name (e.g., Evaluating, Implementing, Cash Flowing, Locked In) with the total number of ideas/initiatives in parentheses
  • Color-Coded Stages: Each stage is represented by a distinct color for easy identification. Stage colors can be customized in Administration > Ideas > Stages to match your organization's preferences
  • Idea/Initiative Values: The Y-axis shows initiative values, with bars to represent targets, actuals, forecasts, and deficits
  • EoM and MTD Breakdown: Each stage displays data for both the current month (e.g., November 2025) and the next month (e.g., December 2025)

Data Grid Summary

Below the chart, a detailed grid displays comprehensive information for each stage, organized by month:

For Each Stage and Month, the Following Metrics are Shown:

  • EoM Target: End of Month target value - the target pipeline value set for the end of the selected month. These targets are configured in the Initiatives > Pipeline Targets section
  • MTD Actual: Month-to-Date actual value - the current value of all active ideas/initiatives within the selected date period. These values reflect the actual pipeline status and can also be viewed in the Ideas Card view
  • EoM Forecast: End of Month forecasted value - the total of the forecast values from active ideas/initiatives at the end of the selected month. Forecast values are determined by the forecast percentages or amounts captured in each idea/initiative's Forecast section
  • MTD Deficit: Month-to-Date deficit - calculated as the difference between the EoM Target and the MTD Actual (EoM Target - MTD Actual)
  • EoM Deficit: End of Month deficit - calculated as the difference between the EoM Target and the EoM Forecast (EoM Target - EoM Forecast)
  • Variance: Percentage variance between target and actual performance

In addition, you can also sort the grid and the initiative list by Idea/Initiative Code, Idea/Initiative Title, Idea/Initiative Values or by On Track/Off Track status of the ideas/initiatives. You also have the option to view the ideas/initiatives in a Compact or Detailed view.


Individual Ideas/Initiatives Display

The grid also shows individual ideas/initiatives within each stage, displaying:



  1. Idea/Initiative Code/Number: Unique identifier for the idea/initiative. Click on the code to navigate directly to the idea/initiative details
  2. Idea/Initiative Name/Description: Brief description of the idea/initiative.
  3. Idea/Initiative Value: The financial value associated with the idea/initiative
  4. Next Month's Stage Indicator: Color-coded square showing which stage the idea/initiative will progress to in the next month
  5. On Track/Off Track Indicators: Red sidebar indicator that indicates that the idea is off track or a green sidebar indicator that indicates that the idea is on track
  6. Expandable Details: Dropdown arrows to view additional information about each idea/initiative

Report Filters

The Ideas/Initiatives Pipeline By Department report includes several filters to customize the data displayed. These filters appear in the Filter panel on the right side of the screen when you click the Filter button.


Applying and Clearing Filters:

  • Click the Filter button (top-right corner) to apply your selected filter criteria
  • Click the Clear button to reset all filters to their default values
  • The message "No filter" appears when no filters are currently applied
  • Applied filters will update both the chart visualization and the data grid
  • Once filters have been applied, they will be displayed at the top of the chart in a summary box showing the selected filter criteria

Available Filters:

Portfolio

  • Select the specific portfolio, department, or site to view
  • Include Descendants checkbox: When enabled, includes all sub-portfolios and departments under the selected portfolio
  • Allows you to focus on ideas/initiatives from specific organizational areas

KPI Type

  • Filter ideas/initiatives based on their associated KPI type
  • Default setting shows "All" KPI types
  • Helps narrow down ideas/initiatives linked to specific performance indicators

Idea Definitions

  • Filter by specific idea definition types configured in your system
  • Default setting shows "All" idea definitions
  • Useful for focusing on particular categories of ideas/initiatives

Owner

  • Filter ideas/initiatives by the assigned owner
  • Default setting shows "All" owners
  • Helps track ideas/initiatives assigned to specific individuals or teams

More Filters

  • Additional filtering options based on custom idea fields configured in your system's Administration settings
  • These filters are dynamically generated based on your organization's specific idea field configurations

Best Practices

  • Review the report regularly to monitor idea/initiative progression through pipeline stages and ensure ideas/initiatives are moving forward
  • Compare MTD Actual against EoM Target to identify stages that are underperforming and may need attention
  • Use the Variance percentage to quickly spot significant deviations from targets
  • Monitor the Forecast values to anticipate next month's pipeline situation and plan accordingly
  • Apply Portfolio filters with Include Descendants to analyze pipeline performance across different organizational levels
  • Use Owner filters to track individual or team performance in managing ideas/initiatives through the pipeline
  • Leverage custom idea field filters to segment and analyze ideas/initiatives based on your organization's specific criteria
  • Pay attention to alert indicators on individual ideas/initiatives, as these may signal issues requiring immediate action
  • Review both current and next month data to ensure adequate pipeline planning and resource allocation
  • Click on idea/initiative codes or names in the grid to navigate directly to detailed views for further investigation
