Overview

The Ideas/Initiative Progress Report provides a comprehensive summary table that highlights ideas/initiatives with the highest value and tracks ideas/initiatives moving from one stage to the next. This report helps users quickly identify top-performing ideas/initiatives by value and monitor stage progression across the pipeline. The report displays a user-defined number of top ideas/initiatives and organizes them by their stage transitions, making it easy to focus on critical initiatives requiring attention.

The report is particularly useful for prioritizing high-value ideas/initiatives, tracking stage progression, identifying ideas/initiatives that are advancing or stalling in the pipeline, and ensuring timely action on key initiatives.


Note: Users need the View Ideas Progress Report permission enabled in their role under Reports to be able to access and use this report. If you cannot view this report, please contact your system administrator to verify your permissions.



Accessing the Ideas/Initiative Progress Report

To access the Ideas/Initiative Progress Report:

  1. Navigate to the Reports module from the top navigation bar
  2. Select Ideas/Initiative Progress report from the list of available reports within the Ideas group
  3. The report will display with default filters applied, showing the summary table with top ideas/initiatives and stage transitions

Understanding the Report

The Ideas/Initiative Progress Report consists of a summary table organized by stage transitions and value rankings.

Report Structure

The report displays ideas/initiatives organized into the following sections:

  • Top 5 Ideas By Value: Shows a user-defined number of ideas/initiatives with the highest monetary value, regardless of their current stage
  • Moving To [Stage Name]: Separate sections for each pipeline stage, displaying ideas/initiatives that are transitioning to that stage (e.g., "Moving To Implementing", "Moving To Cash Flowing", "Moving To Locked In")

Table Columns

Each section of the report displays the following information in table format:

  1. Code: Unique identifier for the idea/initiative. Click on the code to navigate directly to the idea/initiative details
  2. Value: The idea/initiative value associated with the idea/initiative
  3. Title: The name or description of the idea/initiative
  4. Portfolio: The portfolio, department, or site to which the idea/initiative belongs, including the full organizational hierarchy
  5. Current Stage: The stage the idea/initiative is currently in
  6. End of Month Stage: The stage the idea/initiative is expected to reach by the end of the current month
  7. Next Month Stage: The stage the idea/initiative is forecasted to be in during the next month
  8. Status: Visual indicator showing whether the idea/initiative is on track (green) or off track (red)
  9. Next Steps: Information about upcoming actions or milestones for the idea/initiative
  10. By Whom: The person responsible for the idea/initiative or next action
  11. When: Date associated with the next action or milestone
  12. Comments: Any additional notes or comments related to the idea/initiative
  13. Overdue Actions: Indicator showing the number of overdue actions (displayed as a red badge with a number)

Report Filters

The Ideas/Initiative Progress Report includes several filters to customize the data displayed. These filters appear in the Filter panel on the right side of the screen when you click the Filter button.


Applying and Clearing Filters:

  • Click the Filter button (top-right corner) to apply your selected filter criteria
  • Click the Clear button to reset all filters to their default values
  • Applied filters will update the report table
  • Once filters have been applied, they will be displayed at the top of the report in a summary line showing "Showing Ideas To Show: [X]" along with any other selected filter criteria

Available Filters:

Portfolio

  • Select the specific portfolio, department, or site to view
  • Include Descendants checkbox: When enabled, includes all sub-portfolios and departments under the selected portfolio
  • Allows you to focus on ideas/initiatives from specific organizational areas

Status

  • Filter ideas/initiatives by their current status (e.g., Active, Approved, On Hold, Cancelled, Completed)
  • Helps narrow down ideas/initiatives based on their operational status

Stage

  • Filter by specific pipeline stages (e.g., Evaluating, Implementing, Cash Flowing, Locked In, Final Stage)
  • Useful for focusing on ideas/initiatives at particular points in the pipeline

Owner

  • Filter ideas/initiatives by the assigned owner
  • Helps track ideas/initiatives assigned to specific individuals or teams

Idea Definitions

  • Filter by specific idea definition types configured in your system
  • Useful for focusing on particular categories of ideas/initiatives

More Filters

  • Additional filtering options based on custom idea fields configured in your system's Administration settings under Administration > Ideas/Initiative Fields
  • These filters are dynamically generated based on your organization's specific idea field configurations

Downloading the Report

The Ideas/Initiative Progress Report can be exported for offline viewing, sharing, or further analysis:

  1. Click the Download button (represented by a person icon with a download symbol) in the top-right corner of the report
  2. Select your preferred format:
  3. PDF: For viewing and sharing as a formatted document
  4. Excel: For further analysis and data manipulation
  5. The downloaded file will include all currently applied filters and all visible idea/initiative data from the report

The export allows you to:

  • Perform additional analysis on high-value ideas/initiatives
  • Share the report with stakeholders who may not have system access
  • Track stage progression over time by saving periodic exports
  • Create custom reports or presentations using the exported data
  • Monitor ideas/initiatives moving through stages and identify trends

Best Practices

  • Review the report regularly to monitor high-value ideas/initiatives and ensure they are progressing as expected
  • Focus on the "Top Ideas By Value" section to prioritize resources and attention on the most valuable initiatives
  • Monitor stage transitions to identify ideas/initiatives that are advancing or potentially stalling in the pipeline
  • Pay attention to Status indicators (red or green circles) to quickly identify ideas/initiatives that are off track
  • Check Overdue Actions (red badges) to identify ideas/initiatives requiring immediate attention
  • Use Portfolio filters with Include Descendants to analyze progress across different organizational levels
  • Apply Stage filters to focus on ideas/initiatives at critical transition points
  • Click on idea/initiative codes to navigate directly to detailed views for further investigation
  • Download and archive reports periodically to maintain historical records of idea/initiative progress
  • Review "By Whom" and "When" columns to ensure accountability and timely action on next steps
  • Use the report to prepare for pipeline review meetings by identifying key ideas/initiatives to discuss
