Overview

Instead of creating additional, lengthy parent nodes, you can choose to import them from another VDT within the same folder structure. You can only import a parent node into a parent node that has no additional nodes.

Importing a Node

To import a node, click on the library icon and select either Import from Library or Import from Template option.

Importing from Library

If you select the Import from Library option, the following pop-up screen will be displayed:

Select this checkbox if you want to replace the existing VDT with the imported VDT
Select the import node that the VDT will be imported to. Note that the selected node must be an empty parent node
Select the VDT from the drop-down list that you would like to import from. Note that on each VDT that appears from the list has a label to indicate whether it is a Value Hound VDT or an Initiative VDT

Once the import VDT has been selected, the following options are made available on the screen:

Once the import VDT has been selected, the options for the VDT's parent nodes will be displayed. Select the parent node to import from the list of displayed parent nodes.
Once selected, click on the tick icon to confirm or the delete icon to remove the selection.
If the imported VDT is from a different VDT definition, a warning will be displayed to alert you of this difference. Once confirmed, you can click 'Proceed' to import.

Importing from Template

Parent nodes can be imported from a VDT Excel file template obtained from the Import from Template option. To import this template, follow these steps below:

Select this checkbox if you want to replace the existing VDT with the imported VDT
Select the import node that the VDT will be imported to. Note that the selected node must be an empty parent node
Select the template file you would like to use for the import
Click to download the template

Importing a Linked VDT from the VDT Library

A Value Hound VDT with linked VDT child nodes is added to the VDT Library as is, without being converted to constant nodes. When imported into Value Hound, the structure of the stored VDT and its linked nodes are imported unchanged. To limit circular references, linked VDT nodes are imported in an inactive state, as shown below:

A broken/dashed line is shown from the link node to the parent node
Linked nodes are displayed in grey color with no values displayed
A warning icon is displayed to indicate that the linked node is disabled

To enable the node to source values from the linked VDT, the user must activate the Active toggle when editing the linked VDT node. This allows the system to run validation checks to ensure no circular references are created when activating the node. If the linked VDT references the main VDT (i.e., the VDT it is being imported into), activation will be prevented.

Once the Active toggle has been switched on, the following will occur on the VDT:

A solid line is shown from the linked node to the parent node
The color of the node is aligned with the colors displayed on the legend. The values from the linked VDT will also be sourced and shown on the link node
The warning icon is no longer displayed
