Understanding the Uploads Module
Adding and Editing Folders and Attachments
Deleting Folders and Attachments
Overview
The Uploads module is a centralized file storage and management area within WiredUp that allows users to upload, organize, and share files or URLs with other users in the organization. It provides a secure repository for documents, presentations, spreadsheets, links, and other resources that need to be easily accessible. The Uploads module supports folder structures, file descriptions, and permission-based access, making it simple to maintain a well-organized library of organizational documents.
The module is particularly useful for storing shared documents and templates, maintaining a central repository of reference material, sharing files or links with teams, organizing content into logical folders, and ensuring consistent access to the latest versions of key documents.
Note: Users need the appropriate Uploads permissions enabled in their role. View Uploads allows users to view and download items, while Edit Uploads allows users to add, edit, and delete folders and attachments.
Accessing the Uploads Module
To access the Uploads module:
- From the top navigation bar, click Uploads
- The List view will open, showing folders and files with their details
Understanding the Uploads Module
The Uploads module displays all files and folders in a hierarchical list view, making it easy to browse and manage uploaded content.
Uploads List
The uploads are displayed in a table format with the following columns:
- Name: The name of the file or folder. Folders and files are indicated with different icons and clicking a folder name opens its contents
- Extension: The file extension for attachments (e.g., .pptx, .docx, .xlsx). Not shown for folders or URL-only attachments
- Description: A short description of the folder or attachment
- Owner: The user who created the folder or uploaded the attachment
- Date Uploaded: The date on which the file was uploaded (for file-type attachments)
Adding and Editing Folders and Attachments
Adding or Editing a Folder
To create or modify a folder:
- Click the + button at the top-right of the Uploads page and select Folder

- In the Add Folder / Edit Folder dialog, enter or update the Name, optional Description, and Parent folder (or Home for a top-level folder)

- Click Save to create or update the folder
- To edit an existing folder later, click the Edit action on the folder row and adjust the details, then Save

Adding or Editing an Attachment (File or URL)
To add or change an attachment:
- Click the + button at the top-right of the Uploads page and select File
- In the Add Attachment / Edit Attachment dialog, complete or update the fields:

- Name: Enter or edit the display name for the attachment
- Attachment Type: Choose File to upload a document, or URL to store a link instead of a file
- Description: Optionally describe what the attachment is
- File / URL: If Attachment Type is File, select or drag-and-drop the file to upload. If Attachment Type is URL, enter or update the link in the URL field (Note: the URL format must be in http:// or https://)
- Click Add to create a new attachment or Save when editing an existing one
- To edit an existing attachment later, click the Edit action on the attachment row, adjust the details, and Save

Downloading Attachments
To download a file-type attachment:
- Locate the file in the Uploads list
- Click the Download action in the same row

- The file will be downloaded to your device using your browser’s standard download behavior
Note: URL-type attachments are stored as links. Where supported, clicking the link will open the stored URL instead of downloading a file.
Deleting Folders and Attachments
To delete an item from Uploads:
- Locate the folder or attachment in the list
- Click the Delete action for that item

- Confirm the deletion when prompted
Important: If you delete a folder, all attachments and subfolders within that folder are also deleted. Ensure no important content is needed before removing a folder.
Best Practices
- Use descriptive names so users can identify files and folders at a glance
- Add meaningful descriptions for important documents to explain context, version, or intended use
- Use URL attachments for documents that live in external systems (such as SharePoint) to avoid duplicating files
- Review and clean up old or obsolete files regularly to keep the library tidy
- Ensure appropriate permissions so only trusted users have Edit Uploads for sensitive or business-critical content
- Use dates or versions in names where appropriate (for example “Business Strategy v1 – 2025”)
