Managing Dependencies Across Portfolios
Overview
In WiredUp, dependencies define how one Workplan activity relies on the start or completion of another before it can begin or finish. These activity dependencies are created on the Idea Workplan section in the Ideas module.
Note: Idea Dependencies are only available to PMO clients
Viewing Dependencies
You can view activity dependencies in three places:
- Idea Workplan: Solid lines on the Gantt chart indicate dependent activities.
- Idea Dependencies: displays a list of each activity’s predecessors and successors.
- Portfolios (only for PMO users): A portfolio-level view showing all activity dependencies across initiatives.
Creating Dependencies
Drag-and-Drop
- Open the Workplan Gantt.
- Hover over an activity to reveal white circle handles at its start and end.
- Drag the predecessor handle of the dependent task to the handle of its prerequisite activity.
- A solid line links the two activities; repeat with the successor handle for follow-on activities.
Setting a Prior Activity
- Edit the target activity.
- In the Prior Activities dropdown, select one or more existing activities from the drop-down list.
- Save to auto-create the dependency.
Managing Dependencies Across Portfolios
To see dependencies across initiatives:
- Go to the Portfolios module.
- Select the Dependencies tab to review linked activities across all portfolios.
By leveraging these dependency views and creation methods, you can maintain clear timelines, anticipate potential delays, and keep all stakeholders aligned.
