Flagging an Initiative for Emissions

Next Steps

Overview

Initiatives can be used to execute your carbon abatement actions in order to achieve the targets that you have configured. They allow you to implement a specific improvement/business change that will reduce carbon emissions and track the progress of those changes within the same system.

The Initiative Impact and Marginal Abatement Cost Curve charts bring Initiatives and Emission forecasts together to enable analysis of their impact on Scenarios and Investment Evaluation activities for prioritising and approving Initiatives to be implemented.

For Initiatives to be displayed on Initiative Impact, the following should be present:

  1. Benefit Calculation: The 'Emissions' Non-Financial Benefit (NFB) must be added to any idea or initiative. This can be done either by:
    • Using Manual Capture on the Initiative Overview page, or
    • Setting the parent node 'Non-Financial Category' to Emissions in the VDT.
  2. Benefit Duration: The benefit duration must be specified on the 'Emissions' Non-Financial Benefits page.
  3. Annualized Value: The annualized value of Emissions (tCO2-e) is displayed using the VDT or Manual Capture on the Overview page.
  4. Benefit Values: On-going or Forecast benefit values are shown on the Non-Financial Benefits page.
  5. Initiative Status: The initiative status must be either Active or Approved.

In addition, for the MACC chart, a calculated NPV from the Investment Evaluation in Initiative Cashflow must be present.

Flagging an Initiative for Emissions

For an existing initiative to be included for Emissions, the initiative is added as follows:

For a VDT-enabled Initiative

Open the Initiative record that you want to edit. Navigate to VDT and add a new parent node in an appropriate location in the VDT Tree. Edit the new parent node and set the Non-Financial Category field to Emissions. Once complete, click Save.

For a Manual Captured Initiative

If you have set your initiative to not use the VDT to calculate benefits, by setting the Initiative Benefit Calculation switch to Manual Capture, then you must add a Non-Financial Benefit Type manually. This is done in Initiative Overview.

Navigate to the Initiative Overview page, and under Annualized Value, click on +Add and choose Emissions from the list of options. Once added, set an annualized benefit value.

Note: Only values calculated by a VDT node set with a Non-Financial Category of Emissions, or if a VDT is not used, a Non-Financial Benefit added to the Initiative, will be considered in the Initiative Impact and Marginal Abatement Cost Curve charts.

Next Steps

After your Initiative is enabled for Emissions, you can continue configuring the Initiative data required by the Emissions module.
